Introduction:

After investigating Alberta’s 5 natural regions and their renewable and non-renewable resources for each of the regions you have been assigned to create a report to the minister of Resources on one of the natural resources. You will be using a variety of resources to gather your information to answer some important questions that need to be addressed. This will be presented at a meeting with the Premier, so make sure your information is accurate and interesting.  Don’t forget to include graphics.

Task:

You will be assigned of the following resources and create a PowerPoint presentation.  This will be presented to the class as a trial run before you must present to the Premier.

 

  • Lumber from the forest area
  • Wheat growing
  • Cattle ranching
  • Coal mining
  •  Obtaining Oil
  • Growing Sugar beet

 

 

Process:

As you complete your research, make jot notes on the student worksheet Through your power point presentation your audience will appreciate why Alberta is the best province to live in and why your resource is important to the people of Alberta.

 

Slide#1   Create a title page for your resource

               Include your name

               Find an appropriate graphic for your title page

 

Slide#2   Where is the resource located in Alberta?

               What is the name of the region?

               Can you list at least 2 specific places?

               Include a picture of the area if possible.

 

Slide#3   How is the resource obtained for use?  Is it grown as a crop, raised as               

               an animal, or removed from the ground?

               What does it need to grow?

               How is it removed from the ground?

 

 

Slide #4  List at least 3 uses of the resource?

              Try to include a picture of at least one of its uses.

 

 

Slide#5   Tell why your resource is important to people’s life.
