Your first challenge is to choose a sport or activity that you believe will suit your region of the country. Your second challenge is to create a brochure that will advertise both your event and your region. Feel free to be creative in your sport development! Think about the region you have researched and what would be a popular sporting activity for the people. Record your information on the student worksheet.

Process:

#1        Develop a description of the World Games that you will be organizing. Click here to see examples. Make a short advertisement for the front of your brochure that includes the name of the event, a general description, and the dates of the competition. Find a picture to go with your sport.

#2        Choose a location for your games in your region. Name the town or city, the province it is in, and directions for getting to this area. (example: will the participants fly into the area, take a ferry, or drive). Find a map of your region or province to show where the games will take place.

#3        Find out the population for the city or town. What services will be available due to the population or lack of population for the area? What other towns and cities are close by?

#4        Think about the climate of the region during the time of your games. Find out what the precipitation, mean temperature, maximum temperature and minimum temperature for that area. Prepare a paragraph (Three or four sentences only) describing the weather, possibility of rain or snow, the clothing and preparation that the participants will need to consider.

#5        What tourist attractions are available for the participants to visit before or after the games. Find four places and advertise them in your brochure. Use the Google search button to help you find pictures and information. Click on www.google.ca and search by the name of your town or city. If you can’t find information on your town, choose a town that is close by.
