November 2002

It is a cold, snowy day in November. You are on your way to school, and are running late. You decide to take a shortcut to Bishop Greschuk that you have never taken before. You turn down the alley and suddenly encounter a strange contraption. You discover it is a time machine. You enter and are quickly transported back 100 years. Since you have been studying about pioneers in your grade 3 class, you recognize that you are now in the time of pioneers. This is a great opportunity to do your research project, so you decide to stay for a while. What can you learn about these pioneers?
Your assignment, as a student who has been transported into pioneer times, is to create a Power Point Presentation, showing all that you have learned on your trip.
The Power Point presentation you create must include a title page and information on Homes, Chores and School, Clothing, Transportation, and how your life today compares to the life of a pioneer child. Each slide should have a picture and at least three sentences written. All slides must be completed. Before you begin, you must save the “Pioneer Power Point template” into your file. Once you open the template, click “Save As”, make sure your title is “Pioneers” and then click on “Save”. Now each time you work on your project you can go into your file. Click on “Students” file, then your name, then “Pioneers”.
For this project you can work with a partner. Partners will be assigned and both students must work cooperatively to complete the assignment. If there are problems, students will be asked to work on their own.
To help you gather information on Pioneers, several sites have been listed below. By clicking on each topic it will automatically bring you to the correct website. If you have other resources you would like to use, feel free to do so.

After completing your project, they will be evaluated using a rubric. You are encouraged to look at this rubric before you start so that you know what is expected.
Your journey is complete and you may now return into the
time machine. In the blink of an eye,
you are transported back to the present day.
