Introduction

You turn on the television and you see that everything is going crazy with the weather.  Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and lightning storms are going on throughout the world.  You don't understand what our environment is doing.  You have been studying about some of the weather in grade 5 and have some idea of what these disasters are about, but not enough.  You decide to investigate some weather conditions to figure out what is going on to help others.

Process

In order to understand what is going on and to inform others of this news you will be making a weather brochure that will be distributed throughout the world.  You must inform people what clouds are like and what to look for, what forms of precipitation they might expect, and specifically about the weather disaster they are experiencing in the world.

Task

Conditions to Discover:

1.  Clouds- Find out what all the different clouds are and list 3 facts for each.

2.  Precipitation- What is it?  Name 4 types and list 3 characteristics for each.

3.  Weather Disaster- Pick a weather disaster and research the following:

*       Describe your weather disaster listing 4-5 characteristics.

*       Is your disaster rated?  If so, include the rating scale.

*       List 4 weather precautions that people must take so they can be as safe as possible.

*       Has this weather disaster ever occurred in Canada?  If so, list an occasion and describe 3-4 facts about it.

Don’t forget to include graphics throughout the brochure.
